Abstract: Using the methods of quantitative and qualitative analyses, the site basis classification of noforest land in the mid-south and southeast parts of Bairin Right Banner in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was accomplished. 4 site type pots, 15 site type groups and 35 site types were divided. Adopting the assessment indexes including 17 factors such as physical, chemical and biological factors, soil productive force was appraised, and it was divided into four grades including excellent, good, passable and poor grade. Based on the local natural characteristic and biological feature, the type and the suitable tree species of afforestation were determined.
